What a Childish President

Posted By on February 8, 2009

In an article published by Associated Press1 yesterday, young President Obama’s recent comments were described:

Still, the popular president — six in 10 voters approve of his performance so far — scolded Republicans with a pointed reminder that Democrats, not Republicans, were victorious in November.

This is beginning to establish a pattern of childish immature behavior that was first noted when he admonished a Republican lawmaker’s assertion that we should approach economic policy with more tax cuts and less spending by saying, “I won so I’m going to trump you on that.” This is the type of gloating winner that is not long embraced by the American public.

But that’s not the most troubling aspect of it; it’s the underlying assumption that simply because of their minority status, Republicans must acquiesce to the desires of Democrats. Ideological opposition is not allowed. The Democrats hold clear majorities in both houses of Congress and control the White House. They don’t need Republican support to get any legislation passed and signed into law so why is it that they are engaging in this fascist campaign of oppression?

When the Republican Party controlled both houses of Congress as well as the White House, there was plenty of caterwauling from the Democrats but no bellicose admonitions telling them they needed prostrate themselves to the ruling party. Even though President George W. Bush at various times enjoyed far higher approval ratings than Obama is at current (Bush was as high as 92% according to ABC News/Washington Post polling in October, 20012 — following the 9/11 Terrorist Attacks), there were no calls by him for silence and unity from his political opponents.

President Obama’s behavior is a continuation of the calls to silence opposition previously made by President and Mrs. Clinton (when they often complained about talk radio, something also echoed by Obama and his team). President Obama’s behavior is both despicable and worrisome and is a threat to freedom of thought and liberty in our society.
