So here we find ourselves in the America of 2009 and in the midst of what we’re told is perhaps the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression (or since 1982, or the early ’70’s, or …) and many people are wondering what to do. The answer is really very clear, and very simple: produce more things that the rest of the world wants.

It seems to me that housing would very quickly fix itself if the market were just allowed to take its natural course: homeowners default on mortgages, get foreclosed, banks sell asset at a loss to investors, who turn around and rent the house (possibly even back to the original resident).

We’ve managed to engineer a very self-absorbed, intellectually lazy society that glorifies idiotic sound-byte mentalities and marginalizes intellectuals. That recipe is great for doing mass hypnosis and allowing a few self-appointed ‘leaders’ to march the herd off to slaughter.
