Stone Pigs

undeniable underlying truths

Name One

On Monday this week, Barack Obama held a press conference to announce once again his plans to ‘revive’ the economy. I’ve been reading many different news articles about the event and his statements and I really wish someone in the White House press corp would stand up and challenge him when he makes such obviously specious statements.

One story I read from the Associated Press1 (are there any ‘news’ stories out there that DON’T come from them?) highlighted all the numbers Obama gave about how many jobs he thinks will be created or saved as a result of his spending plan (a plan, by the way, to spend money that we don’t have). At the end of the article, Obama is quoted trying to refute some of his critics (like me) who don’t agree with his plan:

Now, I know that there’s some who, despite all evidence to the contrary, still don’t believe in the necessity and promise of this recovery act.

And I would suggest to them that they talk to the companies who, because of this plan, scrapped the idea of laying off employees and, in fact, decided to hire employees. Tell that to the Americans who received that unexpected call saying, “Come back to work.”

I would suggest that someone ask Obama to name one such person and let the media examine their circumstances.
