The Spending Must Go On!
Posted By Alan Partis on April 24, 2011
I sometimes tune in to liberal/progressive talk radio shows because I want to hear for myself the arguments put forth by “the other side.” One such recent occasion I heard an interview with Representative John Yarmuth, Democrat from Kentucky’s 3rd district, where he identified the economic reason we, as a nation, cannot cut spending: “Federal spending is 25% of total GDP. If we cut spending, we cut GDP. That’s why we can’t cut spending.” The spending must go on! Perhaps, and I’m just going out on a limb here, government spending, especially so-called deficit spending (which means “borrowing” because it’s spending more money than is taken in), should NOT be so large in the first place?
