For Slavery, or Not For Slavery

Question: were America’s Founding Fathers for, or against, slavery?
Answer: yes … and no.
There were 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence. There were many more who also participated in the Constitutional Convention that produced our Constitution. These men represented colonies and states from New England to Georgia. Clearly, some were in favor of the institution of slavery and others worked tirelessly to end it.
My only question is this: why is there even any discussion or question today about this. Incontrovertible evidence exists regarding the thoughts and actions of virtually all these men — it’s evidence of our own modern ignorance that any argument goes on at all.
